Course Overview
This nationally recognised course is designed for people working in childcare, early learning, and education settings. It teaches you how to respond confidently to first aid emergencies involving infants and children, in line with legal and workplace requirements, Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines, and childcare- specific first aid standards. You’ll learn how to recognise illness or injury, call emergency services, and provide safe, effective first aid until medical help arrives. Training includes CPR, defibrillation (AED), asthma and anaphylaxis management, and a wide range of childhood injuries and emergencies. This course is suitable for both new educators and those renewing their qualification.
What You’ll Learn
You’ll gain practical skills to manage first aid situations in education and care environments, including how to:
Assess a child or infant casualty and ensure scene safety
Call emergency services and communicate clearly with parents, carers, and responders
Perform CPR on adults, children, and infants
Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Manage anaphylaxis using an autoinjector
Administer asthma medication
Assist a choking child or infant
Treat bleeding, shock, and minor wounds
Manage nosebleeds
Provide first aid for fractures, dislocations, sprains, and strains
Respond to envenomation (snake and funnel-web spider bites)
Understand basic anatomy and physiology
Recognise differences in first aid care between adults, children, and infants
Manage acute illness in infants and children requiring urgent ambulance response
Complete incident documentation and reports
Recognise psychological impacts and support children’s emotional responses
Participate in debriefing and review incidents to improve future response
Course Structure
1. Online – Pre-course learning modules and multiple-choice quiz.
2. Face-to-face – In person course recap and practical assessments.
3. Certification – Digital Statement of Attainment issued upon successful completion.

- Manage envenomation (snake and funnel-web spider bites)
- Complete a simulated first aid incident report
Certificate Validity
- First Aid: Valid for 3 years (industry recommended)
- CPR qualification is included and recommended to be renewed annually

Physical ability to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor (knee padding/pillow welcome)
