SISCAQUA020 Perform Water Rescue Course

The Basic Water Rescues is intended for people who seek to work in the aquatic environment on sheltered waters. Our course is offered by our trainer Lyn on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909 as a third party provider.

Course Overview

This nationally recognised Basic Water Rescues course provides the skills and knowledge required to manage patron safety and perform basic water-based rescues in aquatic recreation facilities, both indoor and outdoor, in sheltered water environments.

Training also covers incident reporting requirements and maintaining confidentiality. Licensing and refresher requirements may vary by state or territory and should be confirmed with the relevant workplace health and safety authority.

What You’ll Learn

You’ll develop practical skills to manage safety and respond to aquatic emergencies, including how to:

Scan and supervise patrons in an aquatic environment

Identify hazardous behaviour and signs of distress

Recognise visual and audible signals that a person is in difficulty

Perform non-swim rescues (reach and throw)

Perform contact and non-contact water rescues

Remove a casualty safely from the water

Respond appropriately to aquatic rescue situations

Complete incident documentation accurately

Pre-Course Learning (Online)

Online theory modules and assessment via the student portal

Approx. 2 hours to complete (time may vary)

Practical Session (Face-to-Face)

Pool-based rescue training and scenarios

Supervised practical demonstrations

Certification

Certificate provided upon successful completion Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909

Duration – Online Pre-Course Learning & Practical

Online learning: approximately 2 hours

Practical face-to-face training: 120 minutes

Assessment

Participants must complete both theory and practical assessments, including:

  • Online pre-course: Multiple-choice quiz
  • Practical Performance Tasks
    • Perform two (2) non-swim rescues (reach and throw)
    • Complete a 10-metre swim followed by:
      • A non-contact tow for at least 10 metres and casualty removal
      • A contact tow for at least 10 metres with assistance from one other person
  • Documentation
    • Complete an Incident Report form

Certificate Validity & Renewal

Valid for 12 months (industry recommended)

Entry Requirements

To enrol, participants must:

  • Be physically capable of performing practical rescues, including:
    • Two non-swim rescues (reach and throw)
    • A 10-metre non-contact tow
    • A 10-metre contact tow
  • Have sufficient vision to identify hazards and visual distress signals (e.g. arm waving, lack of movement)
  • Have sufficient hearing to respond to audible calls for help
  • Have access to a computer, smartphone, or tablet with internet access for online learning
